Interesting information from fertilityauthority.com When Do I Ovulate? If you’re trying to conceive, becoming familiar with your ovulation is a must—it’s the key to achieving a pregnancy. But when exactly are you ovulating? The exact time you ovulate depends on the length of your menstrual cycle. If you have a 28-day cycle, you’ll usually ovulate around days 13 to 15, with Day 1 as the first day of your period. You ovulate when hormones cause a mature follicle to release an egg from the ovary, so it could be available for fertilization. Since the timing of your ovulation depends on your menstrual cycle—and can even vary each month—it can be helpful to learn ways to tell if ovulation is imminent. That way, you can plan sex accordingly. Here are some easy ways to tell if you may be ovulating: Charting your basal body temperature: Your body temperature raises very slightly—usually 0.4 to 0.8 degrees Fahrenheit—with ovulation, so charting your temperature over the course of several months with a special thermometer can help you figure out the timing. Checking out your cervical mucus: Your cervical mucus can change in consistency throughout your menstrual cycle, ranging from dry or sticky before ovulation to slightly creamier as ovulation draws near. Then right before it occurs, it may take on a slippery, raw-egg-white consistency. Using an ovulation prediction kit (OPK): These at-home tests check your luteinizing hormone, which rises sharply about 12 to 48 hours before ovulation. • Folic acid, in appropriate doses, can reduce risks of spinal cord damage (spina bifida) or brain development complication by up to 70%.

By improving your health via diet, exercise, and taking vitamin supplements, you'll decrease your chance of miscarriage as well. So follow mom's advice and eat your greens!

Caffeine and TTC

When I was TTC I was extra careful and cut out all artificial sweeteners, and caffeine. I was not a happy camper!! The doctor said that 200mgs of caffeine a day were ok. But I still avoided it. Occasionally when I had a bad migraine, I would take a Tylenol and have a little coke.

My TCM said that you would be better of drinking a regular coke then diet coke. She said something with the aspartime was awful for TTC. Or even have a little coffee with whole milk and real sugar. So I listened! It was SO hard...as I was addicted to Diet Coke, I would go to the McDonalds drive thru just to get a large fountain Diet Coke!
